Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority Launches New Global Destination Campaign

Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), which conserves and promotes the emirate’s heritage, culture and traditions and is developing a leading cultural landscape to support its evolution into a world-class, sustainable destination of distinction, has launched a new worldwide promotionalcampaign aimed at encouraging travellers to experience Abu Dhabi’s ‘extraordinary stories.’

The campaign highlights Abu Dhabi as the inspiring destination for those wanting to experience cultural authenticity and diverse natural assets aligned to the Abu Dhabi Plan’s objectives of delivering an original and attractive tourism and cultural destination.

“It tells the extraordinary story of Abu Dhabi, from its ancient past to its modern wonders, guiding audiences through breathtaking natural environments and exhilarating experiences,” explained His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman, TCA Abu Dhabi. “Every filmed moment, every photograph and word evokes the poetic beauty and authenticity of the emirate, which invites travellers to become a part of its story.

“Audiences will also discover a dynamic, family-leisure entertainment destination and one which also holds out ambitious business opportunities. The campaign will unearth these stories and bring them to life for our potential visitors, inspiring them to journey here.”

Following an eight-month development process, the campaign comprises a two-series television commercial dedicated to GCC  and international markets which will be broadcast and run across TV networks, digital channels and in-flight entertainment systems.

Also in production are five-promotional videos which highlight Abu Dhabi’s tourism, culture, MICE, events and cruise experiences which will be available to Abu Dhabi’s tourism stakeholders to be used in exhibitions, roadshows, and events.

The commercials and videos capture a range of authentic moments, landscapes and emotions shot across 40 locations throughout the emirate. These include UAE capital cityscapes and landmarks, nature reserves and island resorts, forts and palaces in Al Ain, as well as the awe-inspiring deserts and coastline of the Al Gharbia Western Region.

The campaign will be rolled out internationally from November 1 and will primarily focus on Abu Dhabi’s core markets of the UAE, India, China, the UK, Germany, USA and the GCC. Other markets will be activated through intense PR activities run via TCA Abu Dhabi’s overseas offices.

The campaign, according to TCA Abu Dhabi Director General, His Excellency Saif Saeed Ghobash, has been aligned to a go-to-market strategy of prioritising source market channels according to their travel booking preferences and periods.

“This means it will run heavily in the UK and Germany straight after New Year when travellers’ minds turn to sunshine breaks and in China, specifically to catch Chinese New Year and the Golden Weeks. Other markets will be addressed in a like-minded booking preference approach,” he explained.

“We will also target the USA’s high potential Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions market – the US being where many international associations are headquartered and from where bids for annual conventions emanate.”

In addition to the TV commercials and promotional videos, the roll-out of a new range of supporting destination collateral and a new image library of inspiring photography will follow.

Winter Season At Nation Towers Offers Prizes Galore And Scintillating Spectacles!

Miral Takes Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island To New Heights With The Announcement Of Its New Project, CLYMB

Miral announced today the next new exciting attraction CLYMB to be developed on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Miral will bring the world’s widest flight chamber and tallest indoor climbing wall to the island in 2018, complementing Yas Island’s existing array of experiences, reinforcing its status as the region’s leading leisure and entertainment destination.

Visitors to the flight chamber will be able to mimic the experience of skydiving within an unmatched width of 9.75 metres (32 feet); making it the world’s widest.

CLYMB will also feature the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at a height of 43 meters. The climbing walls offer a challenge to beginner, intermediate and expert climbers as they will have the chance to scale 4 walls of varying difficulty. The tallest expert-level wall will tower 43 meters above the ground.

Alongside the flight chamber and climbing wall, CLYMB will include retailers, food and beverage outlets, and a space to host parties. The attraction will also be linked to the nearby Yas Mall, connecting CLYMB with even more of Yas Island’s entertainment and leisure offerings.

The announcement of this new project follows Miral’s recent reveal of the new Yas Island vision for the year 2022, aiming to make Yas Island one of the world’s top destinations for family fun attracting 48 million visits annually.  Yas Island also looks to host 100,000 corporate travellers, and is projected to have 4,000 hotel rooms catering to various guest requirements.

Dubai Launches Largest Solar Project In Middle East

Dubai, on Wednesday, launched the largest project of the Shams Dubai initiative at a press conference held on the margins of the 18th Water, Energy, Technology and EnvironmentExhibition (WETEX).

The Shams Dubai initiative allows customers to install PV panels on their rooftops to generate electricity from solar power, and connect the systems to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s grid. The electricity is used onsite and the surplus is exported to DEWA’s grid. An offset between exported and imported electricity units is conducted and the customer account is settled based on this difference.

Construction of the largest distributed solar rooftop project in the Middle East is underway after DP World commissioned the installation of 88,000 rooftop solar panels on its Dubai facilities in Jebel Ali Free Zone and Mina Rashid.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World, launched the project in the presence of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.

“We are glad to announce the launch of the largest projects by our customers, as part of the Shams Dubai initiative, in co-operation with DP World. This will enhance our efforts towards achieving the Smart Dubai initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the happiest and smartest city in the world. We are determined to continue building and developing a greener economy, to achieve the UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021. We will continue to strive to achieve the Dubai Plan 2021 to establish Dubai as a smart and sustainable city, whose environmental elements are clean, healthy, and sustainable,” Al Tayer said.

DEWA is keen on co-operating with all public and private sectors corporations, to promote Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, Al Tayer stated.

“This landmark initiative will have major environmental benefits, and we are pleased to contribute to Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 as well as the UAE vision 2021 for a sustainable environment. We aim to ensure that everything we do has a long-lasting positive impact on economies and society. By raising awareness of renewable energy, we are working towards a carbon neutral future for the UAE. This project demonstrates the scale of DP World’s ambition to be a world leader in sustainability and we look forward to sharing the learnings across our business and also with our stakeholders,” said Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO.

Upon the completion of phase one in 2017, the project will provide enough clean power for 3,000 homes a year. It will result in 22,000 tonnes of carbon being saved annually, equivalent to taking 4,500 cars off the road. The solar panels will provide 40 percent of the total energy consumption of Jafza, one of the world’s largest free trade zones.

The DP World Solar Programme will contribute to energy diversification in the region as part of Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which seeks to reduce energy demand by 30 percent by 2030. It also supports the UAE vision 2021 for a sustainable environment, the national initiative for building a green economy launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The solar scheme is one of the largest initiatives to be implemented under the recently launched Shams Dubai programme by DEWA.

Phases two and three will follow phase one (which is planned to produce a total of 22 megawatts at peak), with further solar installations due in JAFZA and Mina Rashid. With 77 marine and inland terminals in over 40 countries, there is significant scope for DP World to implement the learning from this project across its operations.

Masdar Institute Showcasing Sustainable Energy Innovations At WETEX 2016

The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, an independent, research-driven graduate-level university focused on advanced energy, and sustainable technologies, is displaying key research projects in waste conversion, solar cells, and thermal energy storage and systems at the Water, Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2016 in Dubai.

The 18th edition of WETEX is to be held from 4-6 October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, and President of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

Masdar Institute is showcasing key research projects and presenting two seminars as part of the conference’s Innovation Platform. The projects will include a novel biodiesel reactor that converts waste cooking oil into high-grade biodiesel at a much lower cost than conventional reactors, an innovative multi-junction solar cell that leverages a unique “step-cell” design to harness more sunlight, which in turn, can produce more energy, and a novel thermal energy storage system developed by researchers at Masdar Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to absorb and store thermal energy using molten salt in a single tank system.

Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf, Interim Provost, Masdar Institute, said: “Sustainable solutions have become essential in today’s world as the global community seeks to overcome climate change. Our participation in WETEX 2016 will not only highlight our research outcomes but will also offer an opportunity for industry stakeholders to learn about the collaborative R&D expertise we offer to local industries. We believe the resulting knowledge exchange will benefit those in the UAE’s strategic sectors exploring sustainable solutions.”

Dr. Ammar Nayfeh, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is presenting present a seminar on ‘Ultimate Multi-Junction Solar Step-Cell,’ while Dr. Isam Janajreh, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, will be speaking on ‘Waste Cooking Oil to Biodiesel in Al-Raha Community: Social, Technical &  Economics’. Dr. Nicolas Calvet, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, Chair of the Masdar Institute Solar Platform, and his team are showcasing two projects at the Innovation Hall. Master’s student Mohammed Hussain and Post-Doctoral researcher Dr. Sabina Abdul Hadi will be present with Dr. Ammar and Dr. Janajreh, respectively.

As a sustainability and research-oriented institution, Masdar Institute continues to pioneer research of relevance to the UAE and the region. As of September 2016 the research-based institution has filed 73 patent applications and been issued 14 patents from the outcomes of its research projects.

In line with the UAE’s focus on developing strategically important sectors, Masdar Institute drives its research in strategic areas including clean energy production, sustainable energy and water desalination, climate and the environment, microelectronics and advanced materials.
