Event:Al Raheel | Departure by Reem Almenhali and Joanna Settle
Details: Award winning director Joanna Settle and NYUAD Alumni Reem Almenhali present a revival of the 2020 theater production that explores the depth and diversity of life as an Emirati woman. Weaving rich Arabic and English language poetry with a backdrop of images and movement, Al Raheel | Departure explores womanhood and the future. It reflects on a body that stays while a world changes.

Event: CinemaNa: Daughters of Abdul-Rahman by Zaid Abu Hamdan (curated by the NYUAD Film and New Media Program)
Details: A live conversation with Jordanian filmmaker Zaid Abu Hamdan follows a screening of his film, Daughters of Abdul-Rahman. The film follows four estranged and offbeat sisters who are forced to come together to find their suddenly-missing father. In their journey, secrets are revealed, and more.

Workshop:Including Poetry in Theater – Approaches to Writing Scenes with Reem Almenhali
Details: In this interactive workshop, Reem Almenhali, performance artist and playwright, shares her approaches to writing poetry into theater scenes. Participants will be taken through writing exercises, to start a journey of their own. This workshop will be delivered in Arabic and English.

Workshop: Theater Workshop: An Exploration of a Director’s Approach with Joanna Settle
Details: Award winning theater and opera director Joanna Settle will share her specific approaches to directing for theater, opera and performance art, based on some of her experiences in the US and UAE. She’ll share case studies and discuss processes for developing and presenting live performance, including some of the challenges a director faces.
