It features stunning murals painted by a group of local artists on bus shelters throughout the city.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport – Abu Dhabi announced the launch of the “Abu Dhabi Painting” initiative, which aims to decorate the city with wonderful artistic murals, executed by a team of creative artists from citizens and residents.
These stunning murals are being strategically implemented in various bus shelters across key areas of the city, such as Al Nahyan, Al Bateen, Al Manhal, Al Mushrif, Al Dana and Al Muntazah. The first phase of the initiative aims to create a unique artistic experience that beautifies the streets of Abu Dhabi, attracts residents and visitors in a way that supports social cohesion and makes them more proud of its cultural character.
This innovative initiative reflects the department’s commitment to nurturing local talents and its keenness to introduce the public to their distinctive artworks that address topics related to local culture, living well-being, urban planning civilization, transportation, and sustainability. The participating artists worked with dedication for more than 840 hours to complete these inspiring artistic murals.
Commenting on the initiative, His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport – Abu Dhabi, said: “The Abu Dhabi Painting initiative is an important part of our strategy to support local talent, and embodies the unique identity of our city and the beauty of its cultural diversity. These artworks contribute to transforming public spaces in Abu Dhabi into innovative, dynamic display windows, represented by the painting of artistic murals on bus shelters that address themes that enhance the sense of belonging among residents and visitors alike.”
