KEY FORMULA 1 NARRATIVES: Formula 1 MSC Cruises Grande Prêmio de São Paulo 2025 (November 7-9, 2025)

On-track

  • Bortoleto makes emotional home debut: Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto says it “feels unreal” to race at his first home Grand Prix, becoming the first Brazilian on the Interlagos grid since Felipe Massa in 2017. Fresh off a points finish in Mexico, the 21-year-old is targeting another top-ten and aims to lift Sauber in its fierce fight for sixth in the Constructors’.
  • Piastri under pressure to rebound: McLaren insists Oscar Piastri’s recent dip came down to low-grip circuits, not performance issues. Andrea Stella praised his adaptability and called the run part of his learning curve. With both McLarens now evenly matched, the team expects the Australian back on pace in Brazil.
  • Verstappen still a threat in Brazil: Despite Lando Norris’ Mexico masterclass, Damon Hill and Johnny Herbert warn Verstappen remains the danger man. Red Bull’s upgrades have restored consistency, and the Dutchman, 36 points adrift with four rounds left, could yet shake up McLaren’s title charge.
  • Rain could rewrite the title fight: Forecasts point to storms at Interlagos, setting up another weather-twisted weekend. Last year, Verstappen surged from 17th to win in the wet, and with rain likely across qualifying and the sprint, Red Bull could again thrive if chaos hits.

Off-track

  • Massa’s £64m case continues in London: Felipe Massa’s £64 million legal claim over the 2008 Formula 1 season remains under review at the High Court in London. The former Ferrari driver argues that the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone were aware of Renault’s deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix but did not act at the time. The defendants have asked the court to dismiss the claim, saying it was filed too late. A ruling on whether the case proceeds to trial is pending.
  • McLaren to auction unraced 2026 F1 car: McLaren will auction its yet-to-be-built 2026 MCL40A at RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi sale on December 5. Expected to sell for up to $12 million, the car will be delivered to the buyer in 2028 once the current technical regulations expire. The sale includes team access and hospitality experiences at selected McLaren events.
  • Hamilton in early talks for F1 movie sequel: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed initial discussions with Lewis Hamilton about a sequel to Apple’s 2025 F1 The first movie, starring Brad Pitt, grossed over $600 million worldwide. Talks with Hamilton’s production company Dawn Apollo Films are ongoing, though no project details or timeline have been confirmed.
  • Leclerc announces engagement ahead of São Paulo GP: Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc announced his engagement to Alexandra Saint Mleux ahead of the São Paulo Grand Prix. Congratulations from fellow drivers and teams followed on social media.
  • Williams confirms 2026 rebrand: Williams will compete as the Atlassian Williams F1 Team from next season, unveiling a new logo inspired by Sir Frank Williams’ original “Forward W” emblem. Team Principal James Vowles said the change honours the team’s legacy while signalling a new era of growth and ambition ahead of the 2026 regulations.
