Department Of Energy To Deliberate On Accelerating Energy Transformation At Singapore International Energy Week

Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) is set to play a key role at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), which this year is being hosted in the city state from October 29 to November 1. DoE will be using its participation at the annual event to highlight its array of services to the UAE capital’s energy sector, as well as outlining its role as a key partner organisation driving the global sustainable and clean energy agenda.

Featuring government energy ministers, senior sector analysts and prominent industry CEOs, the annual SIEW is a forum for energy sector stakeholders to assess current developments in the global energy landscape. Included in the four-day programme are keynote addresses, presentations, panel discussions and workshops all designed to analyse current challenges, evaluate available opportunities and discuss how to best formulate an effective road map towards a sustainable energy future. DoE says that its presence at the summit reflects its commitment to working with all energy sector stakeholders to find solutions to common concerns.

“One of the DoE’s main purposes is to work collegiately with all other energy sector organisations in pursuit of common goals that are centred on driving a paradigm shift away from fossil fuels to clean and renewable forms of energy. Participating at SIEW shows our commitment in this regard and with Abu Dhabi’s name being synonymous with the energy sector as one of its main producers, we are looking forward to sharing our expertise and experience with other attendees,” said H.E. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.

DoE’s participation at SIEW 2019 follows on from Abu Dhabi hosting the 24th World Energy Congress in in September. During the event, the department brokered working partnerships with a number of agencies to help it deliver its mandate to enable Abu Dhabi’s energy transition through regulation and policymaking and to drive sectoral change towards new forms of clean and renewable energy.

DoE was established in February 2018 in recognition that transforming Abu Dhabi’s energy sector was a strategic priority, with energy use in Abu Dhabi having more than doubled over the past decade and projected to increase by 1.4 per cent each year until 2035, due to population rise and economic growth. The department is key to the delivery of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the country’s first unified energy strategy based on supply and demand. Launched in 2017, the strategy aims to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix to 50% by 2050, reduce the carbon footprint of power generation by 70% and increase consumption efficiency by 40%. In meeting these goals, the strategy aims to save $190 billion over the next three decades.
