As part of the special commissioning and production works and under the sponsorship of its lead partner Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), Abu Dhabi Festival (ADF), held under the theme ‘The Future Starts Now’, streamed the second episode of the Global Oud Forum (GOF) 2021 across all its digital channels on 29 May 29 at 08:00pm UAE time.
The second episode featured international musicians Yousif Abbas and Mohammed Al-Attar of Iraq, SherineTohamy of Egypt and Zulkarnain Yusof of Malaysia. It also shed light on the craft of oud making in an interview with luthier Omar Mohammad Fadhil filmed at his workshop in Baghdad. Researcher and composer Dr. Duraid Fadhil Al Khafaji of Iraq provided excerpts of his research on the development of the oud since the beginning of the twentieth century and discussed solutions pertinent to protecting the intellectual property of both composers and oud musicians in the Arab world. Abu Dhabi Festival continues its global events and performances, presenting Episode three of the Global Oud Forum on 1 June at 08:00pm UAE time.
Held between 25 March 25 and 15 June, GOF2021 consists of a unique series of seven TV-format episodes that present insights from academics and experts in the fields of music and the arts, the history and development of the oud and the ways in which the instrument is integrated into today’s digital music industry. The forum will also offer extensive reports on six distinguished oud makers from across the Arab world, with the participation of 27 oud musicians from 14 countries to play several compositions written specifically for the oud.
