Joining a panel discussion at today’s World Future Energy Summit (WFES), Gary West, Head of Future Mobility, General Motors Africa and Middle East confirmed General Motors (GM) position as leaders in future mobility. Committed to an all-electric future with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion, West shared his insight on the mobility revolution, which will bring about more change to the automotive landscape in the next decade, than we have seen in the last 50 years.
West identified GM’s four core pillars of the future mobility movement: in-vehicle connectivity, sharing, electrification and autonomous driving. With innovation and technology built into the very DNA of General Motors, West discussed the company’s long history of building cutting edge technology which has recently culminated in the Chevrolet Bolt EV, a game changer in the affordable electric vehicle space with an unprecedented range of 520km on a single charge.
Commenting on GM’s position in future mobility and participation in the 2019 Global Electric Vehicle Road Trip, West said: “Transportation is changing and we are proud to be one of the organizations leading the charge. We are committed to making electric vehicles accessible to everyone and this is demonstrated both through our ongoing work with our strategic partners such as GreenParking and Sustainable City and bringing the Bolt EV to select markets across the region.
“The Global Electric Vehicle Road Trip is invaluable in raising mass awareness, addressing consumer concerns around EVs and highlighting key areas in which regulators can get involved to drive adoption, something we are passionately working towards. We look forward to an exciting road trip, where the Bolt EV will show off its full capabilities.”
For the second year, Chevrolet is taking part in the Global Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT), which will see a convoy of all-electric cars travelling from Abu Dhabi to Oman then back to Dubai via Ras Al Khaimah, a total distance of over 2,000km. Chevrolet is providing five Bolt EVs, a game changer in the electric vehicle space with a best-in-class range of 520km on a single charge that will comfortably and reliably see passengers through the eight-day road trip.
GM and its brands, Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, are committed to driving change in mobility across the region. Through a number of strategic partnerships with top level government agencies such as Dubai Police, Abu Dhabi Police and Dubai Airports, the Bolt EV has been added to government fleets across the UAE. At grass roots, Chevrolet is making strides in partnership with Green Parking and Sustainable City in consumer education and, ultimately, EV adoption.
