Magida El Roumi, one of the most distinguished vocalists in the Arab musical universe, brought the ninth season of Abu Dhabi Classics to an end with a captivating performance which showcased her extraordinary vocal range and celebrated songs, in front of a packed audience at du Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi on Friday 7 February.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presented by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and brought to you by du Live, Abu Dhabi Classics is the most influential and prestigious classical music programme in the Middle East.
El Roumi, widely recognised for her vocal talents and artistry across countries and cultures in the Arab world,started the concert with her song Biladi Ana, then took the audience on an enchanting journey through some of her most celebrated songs, including Kalimat, Am Yisaloni Alyk El Nas and Etazal El Gharam among other hits from a back catalogue of her greatest songs composed by acclaimed Arabic poets.
El Roumi’s headlining show ended a star-studded 2020 season of Abu Dhabi Classics. The season commenced with an exclusive piano concerto performance from David Fray and Friends on 28 January, followed by a riveting ballet performance by Stars of the Bolshoi Ballet on 31 January. French pianist Lise de La Salle presented her intricate show ‘Dances’ on 1 February, taking the audience on a musical journey back in time. Abu Dhabi Classics then welcomed the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra for two nights in a row, performing a chamber music programme featuring Tchaikovsky and Brahms at the Cultural Foundation on 4 February followed by a stirring performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at Emirates Palace on 5 February to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of the famed composer. Rising Egyptian star Sanaa Nabil thrilled audiences at the Cultural Foundation on 6 February before El Roumi closed the ninth season with her show-stopping performance at du Arena on 7 February.
