The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 has unveiled details of its official app at the World Games Unified Summit, today.
The cutting-edge new app will allow users to keep up to date on all aspects of the Games from their smartphone every day.
The app, available on Android and the iPhone, will be an essential tool for thousands of people including volunteers, spectators, athletes and their families, coaches, media and many more, in the run up to and during Games time. With more than 7,500 athletes from 192 nations competing, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world next year, and the app will have a host of innovative features to keep users connected and informed through the competition.
To ensure fans do not miss any of the action from the 24 sports, there will be an in-depth event schedule, where they will be able to see real-time games schedules, awards ceremony timings and details of non-sporting activities. Users will also be able to find information about bus timings for transportation to other venues and the Host Town Program schedule.
The app will be packed with profiles of every single athlete, team and the sport they are participating in at the World Games, whilst also informing users of games results from each discipline.
Using up-to-date travel information and live alerts of Google Maps, fans can find out the easiest way to get to various World Games locations throughout the UAE, while there will also be general information on each venue.
Upon arriving at one of the venues, users can utilize the app for indoor navigation and the Chatbot feature will further engage with users in providing any information.
With more than 500,000 spectators expected for the World Games, the app will be an essential platform for users to get live updates, it will also be integral for more than 20,000 volunteers, who can track their shift schedule and role with the click of a button.
Dr Yousef Al Hamadi, Chief Intelligence Officer, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, said: “The LOC plans to host the most unified Games in the 50-year history of Special Olympics, using the latest technologies to ensure the Games is accessible to all. As well as being a vital tool to stay up to date with the latest Games developments, the app will also include features designed especially for the needs of people of determination – ensuring everyone will be able to participate fully.”
One of the most significant and exciting features is Augmented Reality (AR). AR is the latest piece of technology to grip the minds of the public. Visitors at the venue can get even closer to the action with AR by holding their smartphone in front of the real-world and then seeing a computer-generated image.
