The week of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC) 2020 running from April 11 to 18 will be a sporting carnival titled the ‘Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Week’ hosting a number of events, programmes, and promotional activities around the sport of Jiu-Jitsu according to H.E. Abdul Munem Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), President of the Asian Ju-Jitsu Union and Vice President of the International Ju-Jitsu Federation.
The Supreme Organizing Committee confirmed that the 12th edition of the ADWPJJC will begin on April 11 with the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Festival and the Para Jiu-Jitsu competition. April 12 will see the commencement of the youths competition which will last for two days before the Masters event that will be held on April 14. Professional athletes will take to the mats from April 15 till 17 and the Championship will conclude on April 18 with a glittering awards ceremony.
The announcement of the ‘Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Week’ was made during the first meeting of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the 12th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC) which was chaired by H.E. Abdul Munem Al Hashemi and was attended by H.E. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice President of UAEJJF, and several representatives of official entities in Abu Dhabi at the UAEJJF’s offices on Wednesday, January 29.
The Supreme Organizing Committee for the 12th edition of the ADWPJJC has been set up in line with the directive of the wise and visionary leadership of the UAE to provide a concerted and collaborative effort in organizing the ADWPJJC to the best international standards and to promote the position of Abu Dhabi as the home of Jiu-Jitsu.
“The consistent success and growth of the tournament has been possible through the contributions of every citizen of our nation and not through the UAEJJF’s efforts alone,” said H.E. Abdul Munem Al Hashemi. “This constant growth of the tournament and its standing as an international platform for excellence in Jiu-Jitsu has led us to the decision of celebrating the ‘Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Week’, an initiative that will strive to further popularize and publicize our sport in cooperation with other governmental entities whose support is crucial for the growth of Jiu-Jitsu on the international stage.”
H.E. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri said that the hosting of the ‘Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Week’ was a step for a number of crucial government entities to collaborate and optimize their resources as part of the Supreme Organizing Committee for the 12the ADWPJJC in order to raise the prestige of the ADWPJJC, an event that is a hallmark of Emirati excellence. “Members of the Supreme Organizing Committee are currently engaged in chalking out the framework of cooperation between multiple government partners in order to provide the ideal type of support for the success of the prestigious ADWPJJC and to work together on elevating the standard of the Championship that has gone from strength to strength since inception.”
The meeting of the Supreme Organizing Committee for the 12th edition of the ADWPJJC was attended by Fahd Ali Al Shamsi, CEO of the UAEJJF, Mubarak Al Menhali, Technical Director of UAEJJF, Mohammed Hussein Marzouqi, Director of the Marketing and Communications Department and the Director of the ADWPJJC 2020, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abu Dhabi Police, Emirates News Agency (WAM), Abu Dhabi Government Media Office, Department of Culture and Tourism, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and the Abu Dhabi Media Company.
