Abu Dhabi, 7th February 2019: Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), the Abu Dhabi Science Festival (ADSF) 2019 is hosting 25 workshops and live shows until the 9th of February 2019, at the Al Jahili Park in the Al Ain Region and City Mall in the Al Dhafra Region.
At the Al Jahili Park in the Al Ain Region, 6,500 students are expected to attend and 1,600 will participate at City Mall in the Al Dhafra Region. ADEK seeks to create an encouraging environment for work, creativity and excellence, which contributes to fostering a culture of innovation among all members of society, as well as giving the opportunity to the people of Al Ain and Al Dhafra to participate in the annual Festival 2019.
ADSF offers students fun and educational experiences complementing national efforts in guiding future generations towards an innovation-based, competitive knowledge economy.
The Al Ain Region is hosting a distinctive group of workshops for participants of all ages, such as the ‘Conductive Ink’ workshop, designed to educate participants about electricity through drawing with conductive ink and understanding its working concepts in a fun and simple way. At the end of the workshop, participants receive their drawings as a souvenir to continue the journey of exploring.
The ‘Solar Energy Cars’ workshop is designed to educate participants about solar power and how to generate enough energy to run their own solar powered vehicle. Before participating in the challenge, students will work as one team to apply a set of performance tests and analyze the results. For those who are passionate about arts, ‘Doodle Your Creations to Life’ is a workshop that teaches students how to use 3D pen techniques and allow them to create real life models.
Visitors will also be able to participate in the ‘Avian Adventures’ workshop, where they can become animal conservationists and explore environmental conservation activities. They will also learn about various species of birds that inhabit the UAE, how to maintain their healthy population and the environment they live in, and how birds adapt to survive.
For space science lovers, they can join the ‘LED Rocket Racers’ competitive workshop, which is designed to allow participants to construct their own LED rocket racer while maintaining force and pressure. Participants will utilize their scientific knowledge and skills to create the most efficient rocket and then join in with a race between the other participants. ‘Magic Andy’s Fire and Color Show’ is a workshop where Magic Andy, a renowned science performer, demonstrates a series of fascinating fire experiments which answer the student’s question, ‘Is it magic or science?’.
City Mall in the Al Dhafra Region is also hosting a range of workshops for participants of all ages. The ‘Speedy Sails’ workshop enables participants to use various materials to construct their own land yacht, and in the ‘Tiny Toy Shop’, participants will build their own simple toy, test it, and race against other participants’ models to see the most effective design.
The ‘Hydrogen Design Challenge’ workshop allows participants to create and design their own vehicles by encouraging them to test, design and build their own Lego model vehicle and discover ways to improve their vehicles. Finally, they will compete against each other to see who has created the best model, while The ‘Horse Race’ workshop teaches students how to construct a miniature mechanical horse robot which will race to see who wins the first lap.
The ‘Fischertip’ workshop will allow participants to use an interactive tool which instantly turns simple ideas into tangible objects. The ‘Busking Bikes’ workshop offers impressive, explosive and messy experiments, from launching a rocket into space to discovering Carbon capture and storage and how it can save our planet.
The Festival opened on the 31st of January and runs until the 9th of February 2019. Visits are being organized for schools from 9am to 1pm, and for the general public from 4pm to 10pm. During the weekends, it will be open from 2pm to 10pm.
