The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in partnership with the NYUAD Music Program, presents American composer, pianist, and Assistant Arts Professor of Music Matthew Quayle in a world premiere of original piano sonatas. The evening of contemporary piano music will premier online on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 7:30pm live from the Red Theater.
In this recital, Matthew Quayle presents his complete series of original piano sonatas. Written over a span of 25 years, these powerful works explore a wide range of styles and emotions. After the brooding grief of the first sonata, the protest and violence of the second, and the bluesy ebullience of the third, Quayle will perform the world premiere of his meditative Sonata No. 4.
Thanks to his diverse compositional output, Quayle has received commissions and performances from world renowned soloists and ensembles including Akira Saxophone Quartet, Alarm Will Sound, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Emanuele Arciuli, Arditti String Quartet, and Avalon String Quartet, among others. Quayle has taught music as Associate Arts Professor at NYU Abu Dhabi since 2012 and served as Program Head of Music from 2017 to 2020.
The event will be streamed online on Facebook, YouTube and nyuad-artscenter.org with free ticket registration.
