The Galleria on Al Maryah Island is excited to invite art enthusiasts of Abu Dhabi to meet acclaimed Chinese paper cutting artist Yuan Chengxiang. The prominent paper cutting artist will be showcasing a selection of unique pieces at the luxury shopping and dining destination, from February 13th to 26th, throughout opening hours.
The 63-year-old artist has travelled the world showcasing his special talent for the last 40 years through his role as the director of Chengdu Folk Artists Association. The art of paper cutting is one of the most important types of Chinese folk art and is steeped within the country’s culture and history. This intricate art form of creating paper cut portraits of people originated in China around AD 100. Symbolizing luck and happiness, paper-cutting tends to use red paper as the colour is associated with festivities and happiness in Far Eastern culture.
The art exhibition launches the Chinese New Year celebrations at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island, ahead of a weekend of oriental themed activity. From February 15th – 17th, family and friends will enjoy an array of events, from traditional Chinese dances, to vibrant performances from the Far East and a delicious food market with an impressive firework display at 9pm on 16th February.
