The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi (The Mall at WTCAD) and Alliance Française Abu Dhabi, have announced “Fête de la Musique”, or World Music Day, which will take place on Friday, 21st June, in the public square at The Mall at WTCAD, from 2pm to 10.30pm. The international music event, is a free celebration of music which is observed in more than 800 cities across 120 countries, on the same day each year. Paying homage to the 200-plus nationalities living peacefully in the UAE, Alliance Française and The Mall at WTCAD, are bringing more than 10 nationalities to perform together, in honour of the UAE’s Year of Tolerance.
Sultan Al Hajji, President of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi, said, “This year, we are delighted to announce that World Music Day will be attended by a number of international dignitaries, who, along with visitors from the public, will be able to enjoy a celebration of emerging musical talent.”
“We are thrilled to bring this event to life with more than twenty-three performances by 50 musicians, both professional and amateur, from all around the world. They will perform a wide variety of musical genres, including Emirati music, Blues, rock, jazz, R’n’B, electronic music, pop, Indian and Mediterranean to name but a few,” he continued.
Music lovers from around the UAE are invited to join the celebrations, which will see a diversified program of solo and group performances. An international song contest will also be hosted during which, 11 contestants will compete for the grand prize of a studio recording session, courtesy of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi and The Mall at WTCAD.
Visitors to the mall this Friday can look forward to performances from artists such as; Arthur, a French DJ, resident in Abu Dhabi; the spellbinding Duo Mediterraneum, with the talented Tunisian singer and flute player, Fedia Khalfallah; Italian guitarist, Gennaro Siena; Riko Miyasaka from Japan; a gifted 14-year-old musician, Hydyy Brown; a Saudi born Indian artist; Billy Michale Usana from Philippines; students from Cadenza Music; KlassiQo from Cameroon; and Midian Lima from Brazil who will share her music through moving melodies.
The Mall at WTCAD will host the opening ceremony in the presence of guests, including; Sultan Al Hajji, President of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi; Mohamed Beldjoudi, Director of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi; Yasser Al Marzouqi, General Manager of The Mall at WTCAD; and prestigious guests; H.E. Dr. Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State; H.E. Ludovic Pouille, Ambassador of France in the United Arab Emirates and his counterparts; H.E. Fernando Luis Lemos Igreja, Ambassador of Brazil; H.E. Akihiko Nakajima, Ambassador of Japan; and H.E. Hjayceelyn M.Quintan, Ambassador of Philippines.
Fête de la Musique-World Music Day Program:
- 2pm: Opening ceremony with an Emirati musicians’ group. Famous Emirati composer Eman Al Hashimi, will sing the national anthem and a personal composition.
- From 2.30pm to 7.50pm: The stage will be open to solo and group performances from singing-song-writing professionals and amateurs. Performances will include Blues, rock, jazz, R’n’B, electronic music, pop, Indian, and Mediterranean music.
- From 8pm to 10.30pm: Judged by a jury of music professionals, an International song contest dedicated to people aged 14 and over, will take place. The winner will receive studio recording courtesy of Alliance Française Abu Dhabi and The Mall at WTCAD. Participants, ranging in age from 14 to 50 years old, will perform classic songs, as well as contemporary and modern covers songs.
