The Yas SeaWorld® Research & Rescue Center Kicks-Off 2025 Science Talk Series With A Focus On Seagrass

The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center, the largest dedicated marine research, rescue, rehabilitation and return center in the region,is making significant strides in its educational outreach as it kicks-off its2025 monthly Science Talk series with the topic of “Seagrass” on January 16.

Following its successful launch in September 2023, the Center’s monthly Science Talk series saw over 1,400 attendees delving into various topics including the challenges and successes in sea turtle conservation, desert reptiles’ adaptations to the region’s harsh climate, fish biodiversity and many more.

As the new year commences, the first Science Talk of 2025 will take place on Thursday, January 16at 6:30pm, where attendees learn more about Seagrass.The Science Talkwill see Dr.Hung Nguyen, Senior Researcher at the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center, together with Ms. Noura Al Mansouri, Marine Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation Specialist at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi lead an engaging talk about the importance of seagrass meadows to marine biodiversity, fisheries, coastal protection and even nature-based solution for climate change fighting.

Seagrass meadows are found across Abu Dhabi waters and support the large population of dugongs living in our waters. Seagrass ecosystems are one of the priority research topics of the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center. Both seagrass experts from the Center and from The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi will be joined on stage by Dr. Abdelmenam Mohamed, Coordinator Dugong MOU Secretariat Convention for Migratory Species Office in Abu Dhabi, who will be presenting the UN initiative “2030 Seagrass Breakthrough.”

Developed to share knowledge on Natural Sciences and Environmental Conservation, the Science Talk series at the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center is prepared in close collaboration with the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, the Emirates Natural History Group Abu Dhabi, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and Nautica Environmental LLC. The objectives are to deepen the community’s general understanding on the Natural History of the Arabian Peninsula, shed lights on research studies carried out in the UAE and the region by local researchers and research teams as well as to raise awareness on environmental conservation topics.

The Science Talk events are organized every month at the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center. The events are free but pre-booking is mandatory. The Science Talks are not suitable for children under 5 years old.

The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center hosts three tours per week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm guided by members of the education team where guests can enjoy in-depth orientations of the Center’s facilities.
