Experts from the UAE’s Department of Energy (DoE), a Principal Partner of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), once again led the discussions during Day 3 of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Over 850 companies representing over 40 countries have converged at the 2019 edition of WFES to view the latest “green” technology and offer thought leadership through platforms including the Future Sustainability Summit, WFES Expo, WFES Forums, CLIX (Climate Innovations Exchange), the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum and other WFES hosted events.
His Excellency Mohammed Bin Jarsh Al Falasi, Undersecretary of DoE, said: “We are proud to actively participate in WFES, the leading energy platform hosted by Abu Dhabi. This participation articulates DoE’s significant role in mobilizing resources and galvanizing efforts of companies operating in renewable energy sector to ensure a more prosperous energy sector.”
“WFES serves as an ideal platform to for stepping up our efforts to achieve the objectives of the energy sector in Abu Dhabi. In supporting WFES, we reiterate the importance of strengthening collaboration among stakeholders as a means of highlighting our joint efforts to apply global best practices and work to achieve energy security and a sustainable future”, added Al Falasi.
Mr Fawad Gilani, Partnership and International Relations Section Head for the Department of Energy, was part of a panel examining ‘Ensuring quality throughout the supply chain in solar installations’.
Gilani and the panel discussed how price pressures are affecting solar installations and the problems suppliers are facing adapting to a market where the competition is intense, and prices continue to fall. Also examined were what steps developers could follow to avoid mistakes and find reliable equipment that is suitable for their region’s conditions.
Aisha Al Mansoori, an engineer and member of the Board of Directors at Sweihan PV Power Company, a DoE partner, contributed to a panel discussing the outlook on solar energy for Abu Dhabi, and Eng. Naji Al Messabi, Power Operations and Dispatch Department Manager at Transco, another DoE partner, offered his thoughts on a panel entitled ‘Ensuring quality throughout the supply chain in solar installations’.
At the DoE display in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre’s Atrium Hall, Sultan Alshkeili, Energy Pricing and Tariffs Director for Regulatory Affairs for the DoE, explained how price controls work and why. Other topics covered at the display included ‘Instant Licensing’ for businesses and ‘Analyzing and Optimizing Locations for Solar Installations’.
On Tuesday, His Excellency Mohammed bin Jarsh Al Falasi, Undersecretary of the Department of Energy, led a presentation entitled ‘Laying the groundwork for future energy provision’, which was part of a busy day for DoE experts: in addition to Mr Al Falasi’s presentation, Ramis Alaileh, Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Director at the DoE, appeared on a panel entitled ‘State of the industry: Are energy efficiency authorities on track to meet ambitious targets’, and DoE Head of Water Networks, Mohammed Younes, participated in the ‘Water, Food and the Bio-Economy: Future Challenges and Solutions’ panel.
In addition, Jamal Fahmi Rashid Shadid, Policy Development Director for the DoE, appeared on a panel called ‘Establishing Regional Targets on Leakage’.
In supporting the 12th edition of ADSW, DoE is sponsoring various forums and conferences during the week in line with its commitment to investing in sustainable energy solutions and supporting the future vision of Abu Dhabi in relation to the energy sector.
Specifically, DoE is sponsoring the official opening ceremony and WFES forums that cover five core themes including water, energy, mobility, waste management (EcoWaste) and tech-for-good. Under these core pillars, some of the most notable events are the Future Summit, the WiSER (‘Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy’) Forum, the Climate Innovation Exchange – CLIX Forum, and the Youth 4 Sustainability Hub.
WFES is a part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), the largest sustainability gathering in the Middle East. Hosted by Masdar and the DoE as Principal Partner, ADSW’s goal is to further the understanding of the world to the social, economic and environmental trends shaping sustainable development and to aid in developing viable strategies to mitigate climate change. The week examines relationships between economic development, poverty eradication, energy security, water scarcity and climate change as part of global energy challenges and opportunities.
