With an interior design inspired by Abu Dhabi’s rich natural surroundings, the upcoming Reem Mall promises to deliver a truly unique customer experience when it opens its doors in late 2020.
The developers behind the $1.2bn project today offered the first glimpse of some of the key design features inside Abu Dhabi’s new retail, leisure and entertainment destination.
Echoing Abu Dhabi’s vibrant mangrove forests, the vast salt flats and their awe inspiring crystal formations, the Mall will have a localized uniqueness and specific character enveloped in the history of Abu Dhabi.
In line with this direction, the mall has been divided into three distinct areas – each with its unique look and feel.
Mangrove Atrium will form the central axis of Reem Mall and is aligned to a viewing corridor that reaches out to the nearby Najmat Marina creating a visual link to the ocean. This part of the mall is inspired by the Grey Mangrove, and will be alive and filled with rich natural materials, sunlight and tall vertical elements.
To the south, the Urban Façade and Mall are inspired by the salty crystaline formations left behind on the grey mangrove leaf after transpiration. This part of the mall, inspired by the crystals, will be cubic in nature with textures emerging and building up from the ground, creating a feel of contrast and diversity.
To the north, the Dynamic Façade and Mall are inspired by the vast salt flats or Sabkha. The contemporary panels used in this area give the building a distinctive modern identity and appearance with the introduction of dramatic angles informing the materials and layouts.
“The design vision for Reem Mall underpins the project vision to create a best in class retail and leisure destination that welcomes all, and to connect Reem Mall with its location on Reem Island,” said Shane Eldstrom, CEO of Al Farwaniya. “From the outset our ambition has been to design a mall that is both visually stunning and highly functional, delivering a never-before-seen guest experience. Reem Mall will bring a fresh indoor atmosphere, with schemes that flow effortlessly from inside to outside, creating the perfect balance between business and beauty.”
