SEHA’s Readiness Forum’ Explores Network’s Preparedness To Respond To A National Emergency

Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the largest healthcare network in the United Arab Emirates, has hosted a Readiness Forum. During the conference attendees exchanged knowledge, experience and best practice, while exploring the preparedness of Abu Dhabi’s health and emergency institutions to respond to a national crisis.

The Readiness Forum was attended by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Police, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC)’s health services team, and the Gulf Cooperation Council Police Force (GCCPol).

During the keynote speech,Sheikh Theyab bin Khalifa bin Sultan bin Shakhboot Al Nahyan said: “It is the vision of our country’s wise leadership that the community have access to a world-class healthcare system where all their needs are met. SEHA is the manifestation of this vision, with its delivery of top-quality care through a robust network of facilities equipped with the latest medical equipment and highest caliber of talent, offering patients a truly unique experience and placing the UAE on the global map of medical tourism. 59% of Abu Dhabi’s emergency cases are directed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, showcasing the important role SEHA plays in caring for our people.”

Commenting on SEHA’s commitment to reacting promptly in an emergency, Rashid Al Qubaisi, Deputy CEO of SEHA, said: “Ensuring upmost preparedness across the SEHA network to operate on and around an emergency is our priority. We are constantly revaluating each facility’s emergency reaction policies and procedures to make them more effective. We are fortunate to have brilliant medical, technical and administrative teams who are well-equipped to manage critical situations.”

Earlier this year, SEHA’s network performed an emergency simulation in cooperation with its strategic partners to assess its readiness. The simulation was a success thanks to each party’s preparation, the synchronization of all partners working together, and SEHA’s innovative methods and technologies.

“The Readiness Forum provides the perfect opportunity to exchange knowledge, experience and best practice between the SEHA network and its partners. The healthcare system plays an integral role in responding to a national emergency, all entities involved must come together and operate as one unit, elevating their strengths and resources to care for the community,” said Marwan Al Kaabi, Emergency Management Director, SEHA.

During the Readiness Forum 2019, prominent healthcare facilities were recognized for their preparedness to respond to an emergency situation, during which Sheikh Khalifa Medical City received the Leader in Readiness Award, and Al Ain Hospital received the Best Director for Disaster Management Award and the Best Supporting Executive for Disaster Management Award.
