A Year of Ocean Wonder: SeaWorld® Yas Island, Abu Dhabi Celebrates First Anniversary

SeaWorld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the region’s first Marine Life Theme Park, is celebrating its first anniversary. The colossal theme park spanning over 183,000 sqm across five indoor levels officially opened its doors to the public on May 23 last year, offering guests the chance to explore eight unique and immersive realms witnessing breathtaking marine life, majestic colors and fascinating experiences. Over the past year, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi has not only provided thrilling entertainment but has also shown strong commitment to the ocean through education, conservation and community engagement.

During this short time span, the Marine Life Theme Park has achieved incredible milestones and clinched 13 international awards including winning a coveted place in the Guinness World Records™ as the ‘Largest Indoor Marine-Life Theme Park’ in the world. The park also received certification from Global Humane—the international brand of American Humane and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare. It was the first Global Humane certification in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and signifies the high standard of animal care provided at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center, located adjacent to the Marine Life Theme Park.

SeaWorldAbu Dhabi General Manager, Thomas Kaferle said: “We are extremely proud of what we have achieved at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi during its debut year, these accolades underscore our dedication to upholding the highest standards of care for our resident marine life as well as our commitment to providing exceptional experiences to our guests. Looking back at our first year, we are incredibly pleased with the positive impact we’ve had on our community and the strides we’ve made in marine conservation and public education. We look forward to welcoming more guests to enjoy our one-of-a-kind Marine Life Theme Park and learn more about the fascinating life beneath the ocean.”

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is also home to the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center, the region’s first integrated marine research, rescue, rehabilitation and education center, providing insights into marine conservation practices in the MENA region. The Center hosts monthly Science Talks in order to make marine life education more accessible to the public, promote environmental protection and inspire the next generation of marine scientists. So far, the Center has hosted nine Science Talks on various topics around marine life and conservation.

Furthermore, the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center’s operations continues to rescue and rehabilitate marine animals in need in partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and is part of SeaWorld’s global rescue network, one of the largest marine animal rescue organizations in the world with over 41,000 rescues to date. The Center’s team is available 24/7 and 365 days a year to provide specialized care and rehabilitation to rescued animals. It now has an impressive fleet of rescue vehicles that includes two custom-made rescue boats, two jet skis, two marine wildlife rescue ambulances, three rescue trucks and a research boat, allowing the swift response to any rescue call.

As SeaWorld Abu Dhabi embarks on its second year, the Marine Life Theme Park remains committed to its mission of inspiring guests to protect the ocean and the incredible marine life. With new attractions, educational programs and conservation initiatives in the pipeline, SeaWorld will continue to bring its 60 years of experience and knowledge in animal care, rescue, rehabilitation and conservation to the UAE and wider region. The Marine Life Theme Park looks forward to continuing its legacy of conservation and community engagement for generations to come.
