Abu Dhabi has once again broken a Guinness World Record after a New Year’s Eve fireworks display which spelt out “Happy New Year 2019” was officially recognised as the ‘Largest Firework Word (relay)’.

An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records (GWR) presented a certificate to organisers at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) after the record-breaking feat.
DCT Abu Dhabi organised the magnificent 10-minute-long display on Abu Dhabi Corniche at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, with the fireworks – supplied by the Igual Fireworks Company, an Abu Dhabi based company – reaching a height of 40 metres in a range of colours and configurations.

Farah Al Bakoush, Festivals Development Section Manager for Abu Dhabi Events Bureau at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “To break this Guinness World Record was an amazing achievement for both the Department and its respective partners, and for Abu Dhabi as a whole. Achieving this feat has really crowned the spectacular New Year’s Eve celebrations that took place all across the emirate.

“Aside from the obvious enjoyment these fireworks gave residents and visitors on New Year’s Eve, breaking Guinness World Records like this helps to promote Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for celebrations and entertainment.”
Hoda Khachab, Records Manager – MENA for GWR, said: ‘’This is a new record category and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi is the first to break a Guinness World Record for the Largest Firework Word (relay).’’

The display on the Corniche was just one of the spectacular events organised by DCT Abu Dhabi, along with its partners across the emirate, which included activities at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, and at the Al Dhafra Festival in Madinat Zayed, to mark the arrival of 2019. There were also firework shows at Emirates Palace, Yas Marina and Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi.

At the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, visitors were also dazzled by a three-dimensional water and laser light show, while others were entertained at a concert on Al Maryah Island by superstar singer Myriam Fares and pop icon Amr Diab.
