Cultural Foundation Adds New Exhibition Series To Its Visual Arts Programme

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a series of new art exhibitions at the Cultural Foundation as part of its visual arts programme. The three exhibitions, which are available to view in person or online until 22 February 2021, seek to showcase the creative talent within both the country and the region.

The first exhibition is dedicated to the life and career of Emirati painter and sculptor Abdulrahim Salim, a pivotal figure in the development of the UAE art scene. Abdulrahim Salim: Between Chaos and Serenity is a survey of the artist’s major paintings, examining his recurring narratives and the breadth of his artistic expression.

In a related exhibition, Maheerah will bring together figurative and multimedia artists to celebrate Salim’s work and influence with a reinterpretation of one of the recurring themes around his muse, Maheerah.

The third and final exhibition, Wonder Writers, presents a collection of short stories by students from the 12 Aldar Academies in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, each selected through an Arabic creative writing competition held in the 2019-2020 school year. Wonder Writers will also feature 23 additional stories from the competition’s runners-up.

“We are proud of the strides that the Cultural Foundation is making to provide a platform for artists to share their talents and creativity with the community,” said HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi. “They play a pivotal role in enriching Abu Dhabi’s artistic scene and creative discourse across the UAE.

“Through these captivating exhibitions, we provide the community with a deep understanding of the arts, despite operating in challenging times. In line with government directives and guidelines, we look forward to revitalising artistic and cultural experiences, and strengthening the Cultural Foundation’s position as a hub for all artists.”

HE Saood Al Hosani, Acting Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “We take pride in the efforts of DCT Abu Dhabi and the Cultural Foundation to enrich the artistic and cultural dialogue in the emirate. By highlighting distinctive artistic themes and personalities such as Abdulrahim Salim, we create a valuable and effective presence for them in the local art scene and at the regional level.”

Running until 22 February, 2021 in the Cultural Foundation’s exhibition halls, the exhibitions are open from 10am to 7pm from Saturday to Thursday, and 2pm to 7pm on Friday.

The Cultural Foundation has strict safety measures and precautions in place in accordance with Government guidelines, ensuring visitors’ peace of mind.  The exhibitions will also be available for viewing online, providing audiences with direct access from the comfort and safety of their homes.
