In a landmark performance to celebrate the 250th birth anniversary of the musical maestro Ludwig van Beethoven, the elite Hamburg Symphony Orchestra put on a magical performance of the illustrious German composer’s fabled ninth Symphony at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, as part of Abu Dhabi Classics’ 2020 offering on Wednesday, February 5. Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presented by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and brought to you by du Live, Abu Dhabi Classics is the most influential and prestigious classical music programme in the Middle East.
The Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, led by the enigmatic Sylvain Cambreling, were joined by a 70-strong vocal ensemble on the stage of the grand venue to perform arguably the most famous piece of classical music ever written. The ninth symphony, created by Beethoven between 1821 to 1824 and replete with its game-changing transition from instrumental to vocal music in the Fourth Movement, brought a strong response from an enthusiastic capacity audience.
The 2020 edition of Abu Dhabi Classics continues with rising Egyptian star Sanaa Nabil at the Cultural Foundation on Thursday, February 6, and will conclude with a season finale featuring famed Arab vocalist Magida El Roumi at du Arena, Yas Island on Friday, February 7.
