Rewayat Brings Bill Clinton And Thich Naht Hanh To Arabic Readers

Rewayat, an imprint of Kalimat Publishing Group, will release the first-edition Arabic translations of two popular works; The President is Missing (2018), the much-talked-about political thriller co-authored by Bill Clinton and James Patterson; and Old Path White Clouds (1987) by Vietnamese Buddhist monk, peace activist and prolific writer, Thich Nhat Hanh, at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF).

The division, which is dedicated to publishing Arabic and translated fiction and non-fiction, forms a major part of Kalimat Group’s presence at the 29th edition of ADIBF, which is taking place from April 24–30.

About the books

An established classic in religious literature, Old Path White Clouds presents the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha retold by Thich Nhat Hanh. It has been translated into Arabic by Adel Khuzam, an author and a musician, who published several poetry and literature books. His works have been translated to several languages including English and German.

The President is Missing requires no introduction. The much-hyped political thriller by former Democratic US president Clinton and James Patterson was released last June and is already being adapted to a TV show by Showtime. The Arabic translation for this title was commissioned by Rewayat to Nedaa Farouq Ghanem, a Palestinian author and translator, she co-translated “Zen in the Art of Writing” for Ray Bradbury and “Writing Tools: 55 Essential Strategies for Every Writer” for Roy Peter Clark.

This fresh translations initiative follows the launch of 11 Arabic translations of
internationally-acclaimed fiction and poetry by Rewayat at the Sharjah International Book Fair in 2018, that brought the likes of Margaret Atwood and Julian Barnes to Arabic language readers for the first time. With these new books, Rewayat seeks to promote literary reading in Arabic language, offer a boost to the global translations movement, and continue enriching people’s understanding of world religions and important historical events.

The works are available for browsing and purchase at Rewayat’s stand at ADIBF 2019, which runs until next Tuesday, April 30.  This will also be an opportunity for ADIBF 2019 visitors to sample works in Rewayat’s rich collection of translated international bestsellers that have been released since the division’s inception in 2016.

Rewayat specialises in publishing Arabic and translated novels targeting adults, using advanced methods of publishing adopted in the contemporary publishing industry. Rewayat strives to become an open house for literary talent in the Gulf region and Arab world.
