Special Olympics Flame Of Hope Lights Up The Highest Mountain In The UAE On Day Two Of The Torch Run

Day two (5 March) of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run saw the Flame of Hope lit on the UAE’s highest mountain, yesterday.

Torch runners kicked off day two of the Law Enforcement Torch Run on the viewing deck of Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 7am before carrying the Flame of Hope from the Ritz Carlton, Al Wadi Desert, Old Hamra Island, the Waldorf Astoria, Al Marjan Island and RAK Museum. The closing ceremony of the day saw Law Enforcement Officers and Special Olympics athletes run 1.5km to Al Qawassim Corniche for a special ceremony at 5.30pm.

Hundreds of residents from Ras Al Khaimah took to the streets to show their support for the athletes ahead of the World Games.

Today (6 March), the Flame of Hope will be carried across a number of landmarks in Umm Al Quwain, including Umm Al Quwain Mangroves, Umm Al Quwain Marine Club and Flag Park, before a final ceremony is held at Fishers Square at 1.25pm.

Day four and five (7 and 8 March) will see Torch Runners carry the Flame of Hope across Ajman and Sharjah, respectively, before heading to Dubai for two days (9 and 10 March), followed by Al Ain (11 March), Al Dafrah (12 March) and Abu Dhabi on 13 March. The Torch Run will complete its journey when it is carried into the spectacular Opening Ceremony of the World Games at Zayed Sports City Stadium on the evening of 14 March.
