CPhI Middle East & Africa 2019 Opens Tomorrow In Abu Dhabi As MENA Pharma Market Set To Top US41 Billion By 2022

Pharmaceutical professionals from across the world will descend upon Abu Dhabi tomorrow (Monday 16th) for the opening of CPhI Middle East & Africa, the region’s leading platform for the pharmaceutical industry.

The event, which is returning for a second year after its successful launch in the capital last year, will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 16-18 September 2019. Sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Protection (MoHaP), CPhI is set to attract attendees from the Middle East and Africa (MEA) – of which the MENA region accounts for 4% of the global pharma market – and the rest of the world.

H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, will officially open this year’s CPhI Middle East & Africa before delivering a keynote address alongside H.E Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health Policy & Licensing Sector in UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention.

Speaking ahead of the opening, Cara Turner, Brand Director – Pharma, for Informa Markets the event organiser, said: “The pharmaceutical market in the UAE and the wider Middle East and Africa region is one of the most innovative in the world with research indicating the region’s pharma market will reach a projected value of around US$ 41.5 billion by 2022.

“In addition to providing a platform to meet, and to conduct business, this year’s CPhI Middle East & Africa will provide a platform to showcase the latest cutting-edge technologies and innovative healthcare solutions while exploring how new technological breakthroughs have the potential to save the healthcare, and indeed the pharmaceutical industry, billions of dollars over the next decade.”

CPhI Middle East & Africa, the region’s only event dedicated to pharma manufacturing, is the leading platform that brings together pharma ingredients, product manufacturers, suppliers and buyers covering every step of the pharma supply chain from drug research and discovery to finished dosage.

The exhibition space at CPhI is broken down into five distinct sectors of the pharmaceutical industry:

  • CPhI: Brings together buyers, manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceutical ingredients
  • FDF: Meet with manufacturers from every aspect of the finished dosage supply chain
  • ICSE: Connects the pharma community with CRO and CMO companies and technologies
  • P-MEC: Showcases the newest pharmaceutical machinery, equipment and technology providers
  • InnoPack: Hosts the latest innovations in packaging, integrated solutions and drug delivery systems

Turner added: “The exhibition will also feature Live Pharma Connect, a free match and meet service open to visitors and exhibitors allowing both parties to make pre-arranged pharma specific, mutually beneficial meetings during the event. And, running in parallel to the exhibition will be a range of content sessions addressing the latest trends in the market, a range of keynote addresses, as well as a host of networking opportunities.”

A total of 14 sessions are scheduled for the three-day showcase, with the opening session on day one ‘Creating Regulatory Harmony across the Middle East & North Africa’ taking place from 10.30am – 12.45pm, discussing the steps that governments across the region can take to support the pharmaceutical industry and foster collaboration.

With Saudi Arabia’s pharma market expected to top US$ 10.74bn by 2023, a presentation titled ‘Delivering Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030’ and delivered by Dr Faisal BinDail, Chairman of the National Committee for Pharmaceutical Industries, will discuss the incentives for stimulating local manufacturing in the Kingdom – while exploring the opportunities that this emerging manufacturing sector presents.

Meanwhile, the final day will be dominated by the latest cutting-edge technologies and innovations in the pharmaceutical industry, with a session titled ‘Innovation vs Generics’ exploring the steps the region must take to continue being an innovator market and how this can be achieved whilst still being mindful of healthcare spending.
